These Shoes are Made for.…..Boozing

March 13. 2015 –Johnnie Walker and a London shoemaker have collaborated to make a pair of shoes, Oxford brogues to be exact, that conceal a bottle of Johnnie Walker Scotch Whisky in each heel. (We couldn’t resist borrowing from Nancy Sinatra’s hit song “These Shoes are Made for Walkin’”)
They’re about the ugliest pair of shoes you’ll ever own but the next time you’re trapped at a boring seminar, relief is a close as your polished footwear and much less conspicuous than a hip flask. The bottles appear to be the 50 ml miniature size found on airlines and hotel mini bars.
Of course, the bottle cap sticking out the back does give the game away and don’t try to get past TSA. You are allowed to include limited amounts of alcohol in those pesky little quart sized bags of cosmetics but in your shoes? They might confiscate the alcohol, the shoes and you! After all, there was the incident of the Shoe Bomber who tried to blow up an aircraft. Then there’s the airlines. They don’t like you bringing your own drinks. They want to sell you a drink and the FAA is in their corner with rules against BYO.
But if you want to be the envy of your colleagues, feel a bit James Bondish, and have some fun, for $438.41 based on today’s exchange rate for 295 British pounds, shoemaker Oliver Sweeney will send you a pair, shipping included. Whether they come with alcohol supplied, we don’t know. It might pose a problem with U.S. Customs if they do. Rules, rules, rules. There’s no end to them.
